2023

sillygoose.substack.com

I started this account over a year ago, and I’ve made one post since. A lot has happened in between now and then: I graduated from ASU with a degree in political science; I started a Master’s program at Arizona State last fall; I visited my home town for the first time in almost four years. There is plenty I could have written about and reflected on during this time. My reluctance to submit anything on this platform was rooted in caring too much about whether anyone would care about my writing. I do have a lot of opinions, but who cares?

In 2023, I want to try my best to publish at least one piece on here a month. I have no idea what I’m going to be writing about. The topics could be random. But I found that it’s best not to dwell on worry. I heard a quote once a very long time ago. The source of the quote is unknown, “Worrying just means suffering twice.”

A bit part of this publication will be politics and current events. However, I do want to sprinkle in other interests of mine: film, music, cooking, and other creative outlets. So come along for the ride…or don’t. The ultimate goal is to get out of my comfort zone of not writing anything; 2023 is the year of new goals and self-improvement on all fronts. This seems like a good place to start.

Thank you.

Excited to read more from you.

From my little experience with it, writing publicly as a way to hold yourself accountable to your process is a much more effective motivator than writing for people to enjoy day one. Every writer starts out writing to the echo chamber, but don’t view that as discouragement. Public writing is the only way to find the people who want to read what you have to say.

Keep going.
